Who is Colin Dunbar?

With the exception of only 2 years, over the past 3 decades I’ve always had a home business, part-time as well as full time.

It’s thanks to my home business ventures that I’ve not had stress about balancing my budget (except for those 2 years!). I really enjoy my work, but...

I love business. Thinking about it, talking about business, reading about it, helping people in business. Planning a home business, troubleshooting, experimenting, starting and running a business... over the past three decades I've had a variety of home businesses, all the way to starting and running my own corporation for five years. I love business.

My home business ventures have included:

  • Photography service (in my first working year)
  • Import-export agency
  • Mail order
  • Published business start-up manuals
  • Screen-printing
  • Graphic design (and documentation services)
  • Personalized stationery
  • Technical writing and documentation service
  • Print-on-demand service
  • Pencil sketches (box frames)
  • Web entrepreneur
  • Virtual assistant (fixed contract basis)
  • Virtual assistant (freelance basis)

True Passion

I enjoyed every offline home business I had, but there were a lot of obstacles that needed to be overcome. And some of the ventures were actually unpleasant...

Washing screen-printing screens with cold water in winter is not enjoyable.

Customers not paying (or having checks bounce) is quite stressful.

Finding the time to get customers in a part-time home business is not always easy.

And then I found It

In Feb 1998 I discovered the world wide web, but it was not on my radar as a business medium at all. I had my corporation’s site up and that was it (it was actually a brochure in cyberspace).

Then in 2003 I discovered Site Build It!, and I knew I had found my forte.

I’ve been running and building my web ventures since then, and enjoying every minute of it (plus, the income has progressively grown too).

Since discovering the web there is just no way I’ll go back to running an offline home business...

  • I run my business from the comfort of my study (nice and warm in winter :o))
  • There are no fixed business hours.
  • No problems with non-paying customers, or checks that bounce.
  • The business actually runs on auto-pilot.

Running a successful online home business is not difficult – in fact, it can be built into a full time business a lot easier than an offline home business.

I am fast on the road to turning my part-time home business into a full time business venture, where I’ll work from the comfort of home (or from anywhere I choose).

On this site you have access to everything I’ve learned (mistakes and successes) in my 3 decades of starting, running, and building a variety of home businesses.
