You can be forgiven for thinking that home based Internet businesses sound too good to be true.
Let's face it, some of those "mouth-watering" web sites offering home based Internet business opportunities really sound as if it's so easy, quick, and effortless to make mega bucks.
Yet there are genuine home based Internet businesses that can bring you a good income. It should always be remembered, though, that a home business, whether online or offline, will require effort to make it work.
So, how do you know what's real and what's not?
When you investigate any home based Internet business opportunity, do your due diligence before you part with your money. Actually, do this for any home business opportunity.
You may be wondering how you should go about doing due diligence. Here are some ideas...
1. Identify any hype.
Whenever you see "quick", "easy", "zero effort", "totally free", hit your Back button immediately. No real business can be started or run quickly, easy, or any of the other hyped terms that are so often used on web sites. Home based Internet businesses are no different. If you find a home business opportunity that is hype-free, i.e. facts are given in that there will be effort in starting and building your business, you may just have found a genuine offer.

2. Proof.
You will almost certainly come across sites that offer "prrof" - these are usually images of checks, or statements from their payment processor accounts. This is not proof. Presuming the images are genuine, they are the check(s) and statement(s) of the person/company that's selling the "business opportunity". In other words you need to sell what they're selling to (presumably) make that kind of money.
Now, consider a company that offers case studies - not only for a month or two, but for 2, 3... up to 5 years - of successful customers. Do you think that's real proof?

3. Results.
When you investigate home based Internet business opportunities, does the company or person offer results of their customers? If the opportunity is as good as is claimed, then certainly there would be no problem in sharing the results of their existing successful customers. This is one of the first signs that the opportunity or system may not be what it's claimed to be.

A home based Internet business can be a great income generator, but please do your research. When you find an opportunity you're interested in, go to Google and search for reviews or 3rd party information on the opportunity. Visit forums that may be discussing the home based Internet business you're interested in. You can even contact the company/person offering the opportunity and ask questions before investing your money - this will be a good way to find out what their support is like.
