Home Business Marketing Ideas

By Colin Dunbar

Marketing is the lifeblood of any business, and it is no different for a home business. If you don't make people aware that you exist, and you don't promote your products or services in a way that generates interest and excitement, your business most likely will not survive.

Let's look at some simple home business marketing ideas that's sure to get the word out about your new venture.

  1. Freebies
You see freebies everywhere, and that's because it's a very powerful way of making people aware of a product. Not only do they hear about it, but they can also actually try it without paying anything. You obviously don't want to go overboard with this, but it is definitely a simple marketing technique worth considering.

I wouldn't suggest giving away your own product or service (unless it's viable to do so) - you could have laminated keyrings made, with your business name on it, and something useful, and then give these as freebies.

  2. Introductory pricing
In the same vein as the freebie tactic, providing special pricing for your new product or service is a great way to pull new customers in. Your chances are good to even pull regular customers of a competitor in this way and covert them into customers for your own home business.

  3. Advertising
Advertising needn't be expensive. Instead of placing an ad in a paper, you can do a press release instead. Follow up with cheap classified ads to gauge the response before considering more expensive advertising. Poster and flyer distribution is another method of advertising that can be done fairly cheaply.

  4. The way you conduct your business and the quality of the product or service you deliver can also be considered marketing. Great products or services generate that magic, unstoppable marketing phenomenon we know as "word of mouth". Once people start talking about your home business in a favorable way, you're in the process of creating a marketing monster.

New customers will come, and they in turn will bring in more new customers. Commit yourself to quality and to over-deliver in all aspects of your product or service and you'll be putting yourself well ahead of the game.

Whether you run an online or offline home business, marketing is equally important. Just because you have the world open to you on the internet doesn't mean that you can just sit back and wait for things to happen by themselves. There's simply no such thing as "build it and they will come".

Be creative, pursue the many avenues of free promotion to help increase your cash flow early on and above all provide a product or service that generates buzz and excitement. All of these factors will contribute to a successful marketing campaign for your home business.

"Visualize this thing that you want. See it, feel it, believe in it. Make your mental blueprint, and begin to build." - Robert Collier
