There will be many hurdles to overcome in running your home business successfully. The good news is that none of the hurdles are catastrophic, and can be overcome with a little planning and awareness. One of the biggest problems facing you is time management. This is true whether you choose to work part-time or full-time on running your home business.
The problem becomes increasingly difficult to deal with if you're working part-time. You'll need to decide whether you are going to work early in the morning or late at night. Set specific working hours and try to stick to them. Part-timing takes discipline as it's not always easy to step out of one job straight into another.
For any home business, espcially a part-time business, time management becomes increasingly important. If you run an Internet home business, this can turn into a big hurdle if you're not careful.
Since you are now running a global business, it's tough to set business hours due to different time zones around the world. When the US goes to sleep, Europe is just about waking up to a new morning, while in Australasia normal business hours are just coming to an end.
The great thing about an Internet home business is that your website will be automated to receive orders and process them. There are many services online that can provide you with automated ordering and product delivery. An autoresponder service can take care of adding any new subscribers to your mailing list, or scheduling automatic broadcast of newsletters.
Another problem may be to find a quiet place in the house where you will not be disturbed while you work. It is best to have a separate room which you can use as a home office. Family members need to respect your privacy when you are busy in this room of the house and it should be made clear not to disturb you when you are running your home business.
You will also need to get permission from your family for running your home business. If you are going to be receiving clients at your home, then their living space will be invaded by strangers during the day. You should talk to them about this and explain it to them.
The same factors that make a home business so appealing are also the ones that may interfere with your success. Not being in a strictly isolated business environment means you may need to show even more discipline to make it work.
